Legendary Hollywood Actress Doris Day Dies At Age 97

Legendary Hollywood actress Doris Day has died almost two months after celebrating her 97th birthday.

The Hollywood legend passed away at her home in California on Monday morning. Her rep confirmed the news to People magazine, as the showbiz world began to mourn one of the greatest singers and actresses of all time.

She was the blonde beauty who wowed audiences with her sunny onscreen presence and her smooth voice. Day was a bona fide box office babe for decades beginning her career in the 1940s. The legend continued to be in demand well into the 1960s, earning her place in the book of Hollywood icons.

Day stepped away from the spotlight in the 1980’s choosing to spend her later years in life on her 11-acre ranch in Carmel, California. When she wasn’t enjoying life in nature, the singer devoted her time to various charitable organizations.

Even though she was extremely popular, earning the title of the number one box office star on the planet in the 1960s, Day was gravely underrated, which many believe was due to her turning down several high-profile appearances because of her fear of flying. She even missed various awards due to having to travel by plane.

The blonde beauty was beloved by many, but her life was not an easy one. Day suffered several losses and was plagued with sadness. She was married four times, three of which ended in divorce.

Her third husband Martin Melcher, who was also her manager, died leaving her broke after he swindled millions of dollars from her. Day was able to recover the missing funds after suing his business partner for the over $20 million she lost.

"Oh Ms. Day, A Cincinnati girl just like me. How many letters I drafted to you and didn't send. I could never get it right but they all said the same thing, I love you. Millions did and do. Godspeed." Sarah Jessica Parker (@SJP) honors Doris Day https://t.co/xm8MtIRSvY pic.twitter.com/HAAXRzBeke

Day’s most heartbreaking loss was when her only child, Terry Melcher, died from melanoma in 2004. The actress had him when she was only 18-years old. She would often say they grew up together, as well as he was the one constant bright light in her life.

Legendary actress and singer Doris Day passed away at the age of 97 today. She was beautiful and talented, but the one chrematistic Day wished her fans truly knew about her was that not only did she love to laugh but she loved to make others laugh.

“I love to laugh. It’s the only way to live. Enjoy each day. It’s not coming back again!” is listed as one of her favorite quotes to People magazine.
