Elisabeth Hasselbeck Once Tried To Quit The View Barbara Walters Reprimanded Her On Air

There is more drama involving two former The View cohosts making new headlines.

Variety has obtained audio footage of Elisabeth Hasselbeck attempting to quit the show, seven years before her firing. Her desire to leave had everything to do with colleague Barbara Walters, the audio does not bode well for Walters at all.

Back in 2006 Walters and Hasselbeck were engaged in a heated debate regarding the morning after pill and if the FDA was going to allow it to be sold over the counter. During the conversation, Walters asked Hasselbeck to stop talking about the topic so that the ladies could move on to other discussions.

The Survivor alum got very upset. Hasselbeck tore up her notecards and stormed off stage in the middle of a commercial break.

Variety has posted the audio footage, in which Hasselbeck can be heard talking to Joy Behar. The latter invited her upset colleague to come to chat with her in her office.

“What the f—! I don’t even swear. She has me swearing. This woman is driving me nuts. I’m not going back. I can’t do the show like this. She just reprimanded me, and she knew exactly what she was doing. Good-bye! I’m off. Write about that in the New York F—ING Post!” Hasselbeck ranted to Behar, who tried to convince her to return to the show after the short commercial break.

Walter reportedly called Hasselbeck ridiculous when she heard the young woman had quit because of the now 89-year-old’s actions. The show was in an uproar as the ladies would either return together or minus Hasselbeck, which would cause a serious backlash for the ABC talk show.

“I don’t need to be reprimanded on air like that by this woman. I will take it in the meeting. I will not take that on air. I’m over. I’m leaving,” Hasselbeck continued as she dug in her heels and was going to quit.

Finally, with only seconds to spare, executive-producer Bill Geddie was able to convince Elisabeth Hasselbeck to not quit after her heated argument with Barbara Walters.

“I already beat up on Walters about it. You have to go on because you’re a pro, so come with me,” Geddie pleaded, and it worked.

Hasselbeck joined the ladies after the commercial break. When the camera’s started rolling again, Walters appeared to make amends by telling her colleague everyone at the show loved her and respected her opinions.
